Search Engine Optimization Tips

Every search engine is a mixed bag; however, if you use the following tips, your website should be optimized for most.

TIP #1: INCLUDE A PAGE TITLE

Search engines assume that if a search word is relevant to a webpage that it will be included in the title of the page.

HTML:

<title>Explicit description of page</title>

TIP #2: INCLUDE KEYWORDS IN YOUR META TAGS

If someone was searching for information that you have on your website, what search terms might they use? Write down a list of possible search terms, then include them within the apostrophes after content=.

HTML:

<meta name="keywords" content="uno">

TIP #3: USE DESCRIPTIVE HEADINGS AND SUBHEADINGS

HTML:

<H1>Curriculum for the College of Business Administration</H1>

TIP #4: USE DESCRIPTIVE HYPERLINKS WHEN POSSIBLE

Example:

Click here for the Curriculum for the College of Business Administration.

TIP #5: REVISE TIPS 1-4 EVERY 2 MONTHS

Tips 1-4 may not get you ranked as high on search engines as you might like the first time around, so there will always be the need to be more descriptive in headings and titles, and to add keywords.
