Anti-Virus Information

PC-Cillin 2008, UNO’s current Internet Security/Antivirus protection software for home use is being replaced. Microsoft Forefront Client Security, the same system UNO has been using for enterprise network protection, is now available for home desktops and laptops to all active faculty and staff.

Microsoft Forefront Client Security provides protection against malicious software for business desktop computers, home desktop computers, and portable computers. Forefront Client Security helps guard against emerging threats, such as spyware and unwanted software, as well as against traditional threats, such as viruses, worms, and Trojan horses.

To download the software, please follow the instructions. Please note that these instructions are valid for Forefront software installation for home and laptop machines.

The UCC will continue to provide up-to-date virus information and resources for the UNO community. Contact the UCC Help Desk to report a virus problem.


Microsoft Forefront Frequently Asked Questions

Microsoft Forefront is the antivirus security client for on campus UNO computers. Forefront Client Security provides unified protection against viruses, spyware, worms, and Trojan horses. Forefront should be installed on all on campus desktop machines.  If you notice this is not the case then contact the UNO Help Desk @ 280-HELP or helpdesk@uno.edu .

What happened to my virus protection? I used to have Office Scan, but now nothing shows up as being installed? What do I do?

You need to contact the help desk. You need to provide the help desk with the computer name and UNO property number. You should be able to find both the computer name and the UNO property control number on the case of your computer.   You can contact the HELP DESK @ 280-HELP or helpdesk@uno.edu .

What are the requirements of Microsoft Forefront?

The following are required to run Forefront on your computer: 700MHz Processor, 256MB of Memory, Windows 2000 Service Pack 4, Windows XP Service Pack 2, or Windows Vista, and 350MB free on your hard drive.

I have Forefront installed, but it won’t update to the latest definitions. What do I do?

Microsoft Forefront updates through Microsoft Automatic Updates. If you do not receive the updates, make sure that automatic updates have not been turned off. If you notice a yellow shield on your taskbar next to the clock, then your computer is in the process of downloading the latest updates. If you notice that Forefront continually doesn’t update, please contact the Help Desk @ 280-HELP or helpdesk@uno.edu .
