UNO E-mail Services

In addition to providing e-mail service on-campus (typically through Outlook) and off-campus (typically through OWA), UNO also provides a number of other e-mail services.

Forwarding e-mail messages to remote e-mail servers

It is possible to forward all incoming messages to a different remote, non-UNO e‑mail server.  However, there is a risk involved in establishing such a forwarding.  If many individuals forward their messages to the same remote server, that remote serve may misinterpret those incoming messages as spam and either block or delete the messages before the intended account receives the messages.  Therefore, it is possible that the user may miss important messages because the messages were thought to be spam.  UCC cannot be responsible for the policy or actions of remote e-mail servers.

Click here for a detailed procedure for establishing forwarding of messages to a remote server.  Note that the procedure assumes that you are using Outlook-XP (i.e., 2002) or later.

Using OWA(v2003) to forward messages

Click here for a detailed procedure for establishing forwarding of messages to a remote server.  Note the procedure assumes that you are using Internet Explorer (v6 or higher).  Note that OWA is optimized for IE; other browsers may hide some features of OWA.

How to use the new anti-spam filter on the UNO Exchange e-mail server

Click here  to review the steps in using the Anti-spam filter on the Exchange server. You must be using either Outlook 2003 on your office computer or using OWA through UNO's home page.

Delete a large number e-mail messages

The following link indicates a procedure for deleting a number of messages during the same e-mail session with either OWA or with Outlook.  It is important to delete the contents of the Deleted Items folder first.

Departmental Mailbox

A departmental mailbox is a mailbox (what used to be a special e-mail account) to separate messages for the department in general from messages for a specific individual within that department.  More than one individual can "own" the departmental mailbox and would be empowered to read incoming messages and send new ones.

CPP Academic Distribution Lists

A Career-Plan-Program Academic Distribution list is a distribution list created and maintained by UCC.  Members are automatically added to and removed from the list as individual students change any part of their CPP categories.

Organization/Club Mailbox

An organization/club mailbox is a means to allow interested individuals to communicate with a specific organization or club of the university.  (This type of mailbox is similar to a departmental mailbox.)  The department chair or unit director must approve the request of an organization associated with the corresponding department or unit.  The Director of Student Development Activities must approve the request for a student organization or club mailbox.

Listserv Distribution Lists

A Listserv allows individuals to subscribe (i.e., join) the List as well as unsubscribe or discontinue membership as desired.  A Listserve is created to provide an electronic forum to discuss topics of a common interest.  When a message is sent (or posted) to the List, that message is automatically distributed to the list members.  Most Listservs provide an archive feature which preserves all messages sent to the list so that a subscriber can review all past messages.
