Frequently Asked Questions - Software

What software is available in the labs?

A complete list of lab locations and available software for each lab can be found under Student Computer Labs.

How do I access Mathematica from home?

You can make the request on the following web page:

http://www.wolfram.com/siteinfo/

Can I install software on the lab computers?

No. Due to security issues, software conflicts, licensing agreements, and limited memory space, UCC does not allow students to install software on the lab computers. See the Computer Lab Policies for more information.

How do I convert a Macintosh file so that I can open it on a PC?

Using your Mac, format a diskette as a PC disk and save the file on that diskette. The PC-compatible computers in the lab will be able to read the diskette and comparable PC software (e.g., MS Word) should be able to read the document properly. As long as the versions of software are similar, you can make changes on the PC and be able to review them on the Mac.

Can I check my grades online?

Students can check their grades online by logging into Webstar. For more assistance logging into Webstar, contact the Help Desk (280-HELP).
