Services

Leadership for University Computing and Communications is provided by the Assistant
Vice Chancellor for University Computing and Communications, Jim Burgard, Jim.Burgard@uno.edu , who is located in Room 100 of the Computer Center on the UNO Lakefront Campus.

Functional Information Technology services and support are provided through the following UCC divisions, departments, and offices:

  • Instructional Media and Technology (IMT) provides services and support for AV and Classroom Presentation Systems as well as Media Production Services for Telecourses and Distance Education. Charlotte Lewis, Charlotte.Lewis@uno.edu, is the Director and is located in Room 138 of the Liberal Arts Building on the UNO Lakefront Campus. IMT has two departments:
    • Media Resources provides check out services for audio visual media (Tape Recorders, TVs, VCRs, Computers, Overhead and LCD Projectors, etc. from Room 150 of the Liberal Arts Building on the UNO Lakefront Campus. Media Resources may be reached at 280-6285 or via Media.Resources@uno.edu.

    • Media Productions provides services and facilities for the design and production of Telecourses and operates the university's compressed video classrooms which link UNO to satellite campuses. Mike Adler, Mike.Adler@uno.edu, is the Assistant Director for IMT and is located in Room 238 of the Liberal Arts Building on the UNO Lakefront Campus.

  • Data & Applications Team is managed by Ken D’Aquin (kdaquin@uno.edu).  This team is responsible for the installation and support of the following:

      • Enterprise and Departmental servers running end-user applications and licenses (except PeopleSoft)
      • Campus-wide printing services
      • Campus-wide file services (including personal I-drives and shared S-drives)
      • Backup and restore of Enterprise data
      • SQL Server Administration
      • VMWare virtual machines
      • SAN infrastructure
      • KVM infrastructure
      • LONI server coordination

  • Identity Management Team is managed by Pierre Minnis (pminnis@uno.edu).  This team is responsible for the installation and support of the following:

    • Active Directory
    • LAN accounts and password change management
    • Antivirus services
    • IPSec policies
    • Certificate Administration and PKI infrastructure
    • Computer Center physical access systems
    • Terminal Servers
    • Microsoft Operations Manager
    • DNS & WINS infrastructure support
    • PeopleSoft server support
    • Radius services for PPP, wireless and VPN
    • Scripting Servers and Systems Programming (CAMS, WAMS & Department Name Mgr; Blackboard integration, phone billing, test score transmittals)
    • Microsoft Security Update services (WSUS)

  • Messaging Team is managed by Walt Brannon (wbrannon@uno.edu).  This team is responsible for the installation and support of the following:

      • Microsoft Exchange services
      • IIS web services
      • UNIX web services
      • Listserv mail services
      • Google search appliance
      • Aquifer content management system

  • Enterprise Networks and Telecommunications (ENT) is managed by Chris Marshall, Chris.Marshall@uno.edu. The primary mission of ENT is to provide for the development, implementation, and management of the campus-wide data and voice communication systems.

ENT Services include:

    • Network Support, which provides logical data network support for the campus backbone and building networks. This includes the support for Gigabit Ethernet network systems, modem access systems, and Internet services to meet campus academic and administrative needs. The support team consists of Trevor Smith, JTSmith@uno.edu, and Phil Stott, PStott@uno.edu.

    • Network Communications provides physical support for both the campus data and voice network infrastructures. This includes all optical and metallic communications cabling systems, campus-wide to the wallplate, and the support for the installation and maintenance of all data network electronics. Managed by Bill Sheffield, Bill.Sheffield@uno.edu, 280-6757, the Network Communications Services group is located in Room 2048 of the Science Building of the UNO Lakefront Campus.

    • Telephone Services provides for campus telephone, operations, long-distance and communications provider-based services. Telephone Services is located in Room 222 of the University Center.
  • PeopleSoft Project provides Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution for administrative computing as well as application system support for administrative applications in Peoplesoft. Application Systems does problem-solving (“bug” fixes), modification and enhancement of existing programs, as well as, the creation of new programs and reports.

  • UNO Webmaster is responsible for the design and maintenance of top level UNO pages and provides support and assistance for other campus webmasters. You may contact the webmaster at webmaster@uno.edu

Assistant Director of Application Systems and PeopleSoft Project Manager, Lauri Henry, is located in Room 106J of the Computer Center (CC), llhenry@uno.edu and can be reached at 504-280-6700. Peoplesoft Modules implemented:

    • Financials
      Purchasing, Accounts Payable, General Ledger,
      Asset Management, Accounts Receivable

    • Human Resources
      Human Resources, Payroll, Benefits, Time and Leave

    • Student Administration
      Financial Aid, Admissions, Student Records, Student Financial

  • Database Systems (DBS) provides support for all production and development database systems at the University of New Orleans. UNO currently maintains several Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database systems. Database Systems is managed by Bill Sicard, wsicard@uno.edu, and can be reached at 504-280-1306.

  • User Training and Support (UTS) provides support for academic and administrative workstations and operates many of the Technology Fee Laboratories around campus. UTS operates from Room 100 of the Computer Center of the UNO Lakefront Campus and is directed by Juan Henriquez, Juan.Henriquez@uno.edu. UTS has a number of important offices:

    • Coordinator for Instructional Technology collaborates with faculty in researching, planning and implementing e-learning initiatives and provides instruction and support for faculty who are integrating multimedia and web-based instructional technologies into their classrooms. Laurie McNeese, lmcneese@uno.edu is located in Room 122 of the Computer Center of the UNO Lakefront Campus.

        • Faculty Staff Resource Center (FSRC) is a drop-in computing lab for any UNO faculty or staff.  The lab is located in Room 104b of the Computer Center of the UNO Lakefront Campus and has 16 Intel and 2 Macintosh computers equipped with scanners, a laser printer, and various multimedia and web software. The FSRC offers a variety of workshops for faculty and staff. For a list of current workshops or to register online, visit workshop registration.
        • PeopleSoft Training is a check-out lab located in Science 2062 with 24 Pentium PCs, one Instructor PC, and one LCD projector. The main use for this lab is PeopleSoft training for end users. Faculty may reserve this lab on a limited basis for class sessions. To make reservations, contact psweb@uno.edu or call 280-1263. The PeopleSoft Training website is located http://pstrain.uno.edu/.

    • Help Desk is located in Room 101T of the Computer Center on the UNO Lakefront Campus and is managed by Derek Rodriguez. The UCC Help Desk is available to all UNO faculty, staff, and students with questions and/or problems concerning any of the computer systems supported by University Computing and Communications.

    • Projects Group (UTS) managed by Nick Cutrera, Nick.Cutrera@uno.edu, he can be located in Room 101Q of the Computer Center on the UNO Lakefront Campus. Projects Group functions include:
    • Campus-wide software Apps support - Microsoft site licenses (including Windows/Office), SPSS, SAS, Mathematica, Matlab, and Amos

      User specific software Apps guidance - technical assistance to the user

      PC hardware maintenance/support - warranty replacement

      College/Department Labs Guidance - Technical assistance to lab administraton

    • Labs managed by Karen Heath, kheath@uno.edu, she can be located in room 101-L of the Computer Center.
