When the gray box appears, choose "Log-Off yourusername". You may also press Control-Alt-Delete and select the "log-off" button.

Can you help me with a homework problem?

Help Desk consultants cannot assist students with homework problems. They can, however, interpret system messages, address a user's difficulty in getting software to operate properly, and provide expertise in using a feature of an application (e.g., creating a bulleted list in a word processing document or a chart in a spreadsheet) provided that action does not constitute the essence of an assignment. Students must confer with their instructors about difficulties with their course work.
